"And to this purpose"

"If people like to read their books, it is all very well, but to be at so much trouble in filling great volumes, which, as I used to think, nobody would willingly ever look into, to be labouring only for the torment of little boys and girls, always struck me as a hard fate; and though I know it is all very right and necessary, I have often wondered at the person's courage that could sit down on purpose to do it." (In other words: rambling analyses, opinions, ideas, views, and comments from an English major, Essay/paper-writing enthusiastic, Austen-loving Master Librarian on, well, Jane Austen...and a whole lot of other things, too.)

"What is it really like to be engaged?" asked Anne curiously. "Well, that all depends on who you're engaged to," answered Diana, with that maddening air of superior wisdom always assumed by those who are engaged over those who are not."— L.M. Montgomery

Happiest of Newses!

I am now the extremely proud owner of my very own, "fully-restored" (no icky colorings and blurrings from the Encore! channel taping off of TV) DVD copy of

The Slipper and the Rose

and I couldn't be more ecstatic!!

It matters not to me that the cover, "FBI" (or whatever it is in Brazil) warning, or DVD menu are in Portuguese. It stills plays and sings in English in their original voices. And I love it! Any time I want. Oh. It is a blissful day. PLUS! The cover is not the typical one that you see on so many other DVD or VHS copies.
No, no. It's a picture from one of every female's favorite scene.
And if you are a (female) fan, you totally know why, don't you?!

That's it. I'm declaring the rest of the year Slipper and the Rose Year in which we shall quote the movie to our hearts' content, as well as burst out into songs and dancing from the film with no shame!

"Your face cracks rather easily."

"Yes, yes. Don't trouble yourself--I am acquainted with them."

"Well, of course he's returned! You get more senile every day."

"Kings never cheat. They adapt to circumstances."

They never end! Well, until the movie does. Which I'm going to get back to now.

I have to disagree with your favorite scene. Sorry. Protocoligorically Correct is still my favorite. Or when the prince returns. "Seven! He's improving. Some day he will achieve the elusive ten minute mile." :)

Oh, I said it was ONE of my favorites. It's hard for me to pick a very favorite. I love the cemetery one. And I enjoy Protocoligorically Correct, too. And some of the scenes we didn't have in my version while growing up are getting up there.

The scene I mentioned is more that I always laughed that she was dancing with her shoe. I used to think "I do weird things, but hopefully not that odd!" But when he comes charging up on the horse and just jumps off into an immediate embrace...*sigh* Then I think I must unfortunately admit I do have a little bit of a liking for that knight on a horse thing (no armor please--so uncomfortable in an embracing situation) as well as a guy who takes action (when you want him to, of course!).

Am I honestly analyzing and applying a scene that takes 10 seconds?! Oh well.

Can you feel the envy creeping through my computer over to you? If it happens to swipe the movie while its over there....

Ha ha--though I am sorry you don't have one all yourself. you deserve to have a movie from your growing up days that you love so much, too. Seriously--$20 on eBay. That's way better than the $200 on Amazon. But then I technically didn't buy it, so I can't really say anything there....

But here's something that might make you happy. I've started to notice if I can't watch it instantly on netflix or get to a library to see if they have it, I go to YouTube. And rarely am I disappointed. Plus, I can watch it in small segments and somehow that makes me feel like I'm getting more things done. Don't ask me how...
